I have finally gotten past those silly mobs in I Am Setsuna. Maybe I’ll actually finish this game sometime soon if I don’t keep ragequitting it.

Does anyone frequent RPGamer.com? I used to visit that site religiously in the late 90s and early 2000s to get all my news on RPGs in development, and especially JRPGs. I kind of forgot about that site until recently, and I’m amazed it’s still alive and kicking (I don’t know if I can say the same about a lot of other sites founds way back in the 90s).

i should probably be ‘kicked out’ of the JRPG Hangout because i’m a straight up delinquent slacker these days when it comes to actually doing any ‘work’ around here on this genre …
Old RPG sites were mentioned, and I’d like to share this little gem for those who like GmeFAQ-y thingies: Alexandria - RPGClassics Shrine - Super Nintendo Database
Looks like there have been no updates since 2006! This is a pretty nice place to ‘hangout’ and look up stuff in. Some of these pages just have FAQS on them but some of the more popular games that have fans have shrines that are almost like PCGamingWiki type pages that are a blend of strategy guide, instruction manual, fan art and more.
It’s sort of like an html-enhanced SuperFAQ with lots of gam-related goodies This enemy list with photos for E.V.O. Search For Eden is a good example

Ni no Kuni is one of my favourite games, and now I’m playing Ni no Kuni 2 at last.
And I’m loving it even more than I expected, since I have heard the game was not that good.
Level-5 was my favourite developer back then. I hope they can revive and that Deca Police be as the Level-5 games I love so much.

I loved Ni no Kuni 2 even more than the first Ni No Kuni, which I am also very fond of. I could not get enough of it and even got the board game. I’m really hoping they continue the series. The latest release was a gacha game so I’ve kinda given up.

I don’t know which Ni no Kuni game I love the most, but that’s a good thing.
I didn’t know it had a board game. Now I want it.
The gacha game was actually a good news. Level-5 was pretty close of the bankrupt, but that game saved them. If a Ni no Kuni saved them, it is actually pretty possible they decide to make another NNK game.

Forgive me for not knowing proper forum etiquette but I’m guessing it’s better to bump the main JRPG thread than to start a new one.
This recent showcase of Indie JRPGs introduced itself as a collection of recent upcoming Japanese-style indie rpgs. I just enjoyed that phrasing that to indicate the use of JRPG here as a specific game genre typing and not in the literal region specific sense.
Anyway a good number of games here I think have a lot of potential.

A huge snail being raced by a tiny ship (I watched that three times), a Scottish (!) JRPG Cairn: Mathair’s Curse, a trashcan fighting to become king, a Canada inspired JRPG, so many art styles - one could get the impression not every game needs to look like Fortnite dear gaming industry.
Artis Impact has amazing visuals and this comic book style… one developer.
How many Youtube channels exists about JRPGs?
Knowing how many great indy games exist and are getting made right now, I wonder how they can find an audience. It seems to be more games each year and harder and harder to stand out, not just in the JRPG genre

Thanks for highlighting this show, there was some really neat stuff in there!
Kingdoms of the Dump and My Familiar in particular look rad, and it’s absolutely wild to me that Tako no Himitsu appears to be a spiritual successor to the Shining Soul games on the GBA. It’s awesome to see that even super niche series like that are being explored in the indie space these days.
