$80 seems a little pricey to me. Those look like standard SNES port controllers though. That could be cool to be able to buy new controllers for my real SNES from Nintendo.
They might be, which would be nice. At the same time I like that the NES Classic controllers work with the Wii U.
I think the slightly higher price reflects the fact that there are two controllers packed in, unlike the NES classic that only came with one.
i am curious about those ‘dogbone’ controllers… they look identical to original. someone will have to do a comparison video of them. the port looks like some weird smaller aesthetically similiar snes input plug. its too bad its not a usb though. cause a set of two “official nintendo snes usb controllers” would be kinda tempting in it’s own way…
Turns out they are not. They are replica ports that adorn a cover that flips open to reveal the same port used on the Wii and NES Classic:
So I guess they gave us what I wanted SNES controllers that will work on my Wii U. If I can’t buy a SNES Classic I’m buying these controllers for some sweet Virtual Console gaming on my Wii U.
For more info Polygon just posted a first look at the hardware.
Hmm, I suppose that’s cool for the Virtual Console stuff. I really just want to get quality wired controllers for my SNES at some point. The 8bitdo bluetooth setup is the best thing I’ve come across. Every regular SNES controller I’ve tried is broken in some way since they’re all so old.
It would have been nice, I won’t lie. Is actually be happy either way.
I’ve seen some third party controllers with the original SNES connector kicking around at game shops. No idea what the quality is like, however.
