It would be interesting to be able to calculate both lists based on different parameters. Like, show me what are the top 100 / bottom 100 in the last year with a minimum number of ratings of X. Or show me by genre, release year, etc. I’ve just never done it because the calculation of the rating takes a lot of server power up, and I just run a task that updates the number every night. I’d have to think about how to do it on the fly with filters and such.

Sounds like you want something akin to the way Steam does it, with all time plus recent.
I do agree, the problem with some is that not enough people have played them so negative scores drag them down more than they will something like The Witcher 3, which has so many ratings that the negative ones have a lower impact.
I also still suspect that certain games, like Sonic Forces, get swept up in mass sentiment leading to a skewing of the overall score. But who’s to say that doesn’t affect every game, for better or worse.
