And that’s that for my list of completed games. I’ll post my top 10s of 2021 shortly.
Here’s my list for this year. I’ve marked games I’ve yet to finish with *, games I replayed with ↻, games I started but abandoned or retired with , and games I play primarily multiplayer (so I don’t really have a sense of my progress) with . (I’m a unicode nerd. )
That’s bizarre. I tried doing a rebuild HTML, and even “editing” your comment. It’s weird that it shows up properly in the editor on the frontend, but then gets baked in incorrectly. If I had to take a guess, it’s probably the same problem I have on the normal site where they have a Markdown implementation on the front side, and a different implementation of the same spec on the backend.
I figured it out! For some reason it was transforming any emoji preceded by punctuation (spaces, brackets, exclamation points, etc.) but no others. I added a space before all of them and now they should all look consistent (at least they do on my end).
Quick rant: I don’t understand why in 2021 any open source software bothers with emoji transformations. WordPress does it by default, too. Emoji have been supported natively since OS X 10.7 Lion (2010), Windows 7 (2009), most Linux front-ends since 2016 or so, and iOS and Android since their inception. I know some designers dislike their inconsistency across platforms, but attempting to “normalize” them (and then keep up with the annual additions) seems like an enormous waste of time.
My memory is awful fuzzy as time sorta bleeds all together, but I think…I can figure this out… * for replaying! Favs of the year get

Man, that’s a lot. I’m tired of writing them all down. There’s definitely more, but I don’t care at this point… Make it stop…!
Some real stand-outs here. I got to know the Dreamcast and Ps2 library a bit better. I discovered the Blue Submarine game, which has been such a surreal experience, and I gained a new appreciation of various titles I didn’t care for in the past. Played way too much Idolm@ster. Had a near transformative euphoria finishing Trace Memory. Became obsessed with Angelique. Tried to enjoy Key visual novels, and failed.
Oddly through all of this, the most impactful game this entire year was Re:Kinder. A few hours long, looks like a deviantart photoshop disaster, filled with latin jazz and probably has the most jaw-dropping ending I’ve seen in…anything. Man. I think that game changed me, or at least gave me brain worms.
Less games played this year for this Jev, compared to previous year, as expected. I will go by the basic list of passed games (with a star for standout releases). In general, the games are played on Steam platform except where noted.
While the 2021 GC wasn’t as epic of a gaming experience for me as 2020 was, it was still pretty good. I got several games in that had been sitting around, such as Portal 2, Mirror’s Edge, Bastion, Transistor and Pyre. I finally played Dragon Warrior II (lol) and COMPLETED STALKER LOST ALPHA ( a game that i started in spring of 2018, and had to start over several times because they updated the game and I updated my system)
I played a healthy mix of different genres such as arcadey SHMUPS, janky Sims, retro RPGs and classic FPS mods… 2021 was a rather good year for those with everything from Romero’s SIGIL to Half-Life’s The Tower, to the official expansions for Quake. Not just mods but I even picked up the ARMA series, advanced in Sniper Ghost Warrior, Metro Redux, and Terminator Resistance (Did I mention i completed the most long-winded stalker game ever? lol) but hands down my favorite game of the year was Superhot: Mind Control Delete.
And while little of it was truly completed, lots of time was wisely wasted in various sim games such as Fishing Planet, Cooking Simulator, and PC Building simulator.
So all in all not a bad year of gaming, while overall less titles were completed, and i didnt force myself to tackle on retro systems as heavily, (or completing grouvee challenge tiers) it was a good time of cleaning out lots of stuff on the PC back burner (and just chiling by fishing for panfish, overclocking something, or trying to make the most ridiculous looking cookies or obscene cakes to display in the shop window!)
The year I got back into gaming! Well, gaming besides Old School Runescape, that is. Considering how I didn’t start until July, and that I had to learn emulation and old game mechanics and more difficult games than I traditionally play (e.g., the old Legend of Zeldas, Castlevanias, etc.), I’m surprised at just how many games I did complete. Here’s the list in order of completion:

Important year for playing a lot of classics I’ve always vaguely played, heard a lot about, wanted to play, found too challenging, etc. Got fully back into gaming! I never knew text adventures were so important to early gaming. And I found out I’m a bit of Konami fanboy! Oh, and that I like arcade games more than I like to admit.
Lol omg I just realized I specified 2021 on each playthrough date… as if that wasn’t implied… and I should’ve listed what platform I played them on. Welp, I know for next year ha.
